WHY TRADITION?

This probably is where many other churches would explain about their new and different way of "doing church" or how they feel they have some new revelation to make Christianity relevant or "user friendly" for today and in tune with today's popular culture.  At St. Luke's we choose a different path - the one God and our Lord Jesus Christ revealed to us in Holy Scripture and affirmed in the teaching and doctrine of the ancient and undivided Church of the first Millenium after Christ's birth. That is the faith that has been handed to us by the Creator and one cannot change or modernize it without questioning the authority of the one who gave it to us in the first place!  For "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever",  (Hebrews  13:8  NKJV)

Hear what else Holy Scripture says about upholding tradition:

"Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I        delivered them to you."  (1 Corinthians 11:2  NKJV)

"So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by
our spoken word or by our letter."  (2 Thessalonians 2:15  ESV)

From the writings of the ancient Church Fathers:

"Even if those faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the true
Church of Jesus Christ."   St. Athanasius

"The best advice that I can give you is this. Church traditions - when they do not run counter to the
faith - are  to be  observed in the form in which previous generations have handed them down."
     St. Jerome

From the writings of 20th Century theologian, scholar and author Jaroslav Pelikan:

"Tradition is the living faith of the dead....Tradition lives in conversation with the past, while
remembering where we are and when we are and that it is we who have to decide."

"Take what you have inherited from your fathers and work to make it your own."
